Cody Cannon and Jake F.H. as Jesus and Judas

"I said this was gonna be a good Friday and it will be." - Jesus

In 2011, I dropped out of college and decided to pursue a career in comedy. How you ask? The obvious route of course: going to comedy SCHOOL. How else do you become a comedian?

The "school" was a comedy program that still exists called the American Comedy Institute or ACI. It was a few months long and divided into stand-up comedy, sketch comedy, acting, and improv with different instructors teaching each one. I legitimately learned a lot about each of those crafts and it helped me break out of my shell in a huge way, but perhaps most importantly of all: I met Jake F.H. and Cody Cannon.

You might already know Jake and Cody as my co-hosts for our five-year running, over 300 episode comedic comic book podcast, Comics and Chronic. Well, it all had to start somewhere.

One of my favorite things we ever did together was this sketch I wrote called, "Awkward Teenage Jesus." Cody and Jake had chemistry with each other right off the bat (their birthdays are both this week btw) and putting them together in a sketch like this was a no-brainer. Cody as Jesus felt perfect and Jake as bro-like Judas just made too much sense. It was funny on paper and these guys made it 100x funnier when they helped me bring it to life.

The video in this post is a recording of the sketch from our final show at ACI and to this day remains my favorite sketch I've ever written. (except for one line in this video our instructor made us add that we all agreed sucked and sounded dumb)

Look out for more sketch comedy from my YouTube days and other videos I'll be adding to my video section! And if you're new to the site, signing up is completely free, subscribes you to my newsletter and allows you to comment on any post.
